Huércal-Overa is the result of the union of two medieval settlements, Huércal and Overa. The town sits between two branches of the Almanzora river. Huércal-Overa is a market town (population 17,500) with much of the town being taken over by the market every Monday morning.
The town has good facilities with a wide variety of restaurants, a modern hospital, a large outdoor municipal swimming pool and a leisure centre. Huércal-Overa is well served by the A7/E15 motorway (the main North-South coastal motorway). The town holds it’s annual Fiesta each October.
